Eating Disorder Certifications

You may bypass the IEDS Certification training program route and still earn your IEDS Certification

Equivalency requirements to earn your IEDS Certification:

1. Proof of 41 hours of ED specific education, broken down into specific hour requirements mirroring the IEDS Certification training program outline

   • See IEDS Equivalency application for all hours required and options.

   Submitting this application is your final step, and will alert the IEDE team that you are ready for your certification audit. You can expect to hear from us in a timely manner.

You may bypass the IEDS Certification training and Consultation Cohort route and still earn your IEDAS Certification.

Equivalency requirements to earn your IEDAS Credential:

1. Earn your IEDS Certification traditionally or via equivalency standards outlined above. If you choose the traditional route, you must have earned your IEDS Certification by the end of 2nd Term during your consultation process (equivalent to 6 months into the program).

2. Proof of total 1000 hours of direct care specifically with eating disorders:

   • 75% face-to-face with clients - 750 hours

   • 25% consultation/supervision, charting, non-direct - 250 hours

   3. Personal statement: Answer the following questions in your own words: What is a time when you experienced weight stigma in a clinical setting, from your own observations as a clinician? What made you want to work in the ED field? Describe your values as an ED clinician, and how they have evolved over time. Note: IEDE strictly prohibits any use of AI in personal writings, such as the personal statement. If you are found to use AI, you may be denied Certification without refund.

   This application includes all steps outlined above. This is your final step, and the step that alerts the IEDE team that you are ready for your certification audit. You can expect to hear from us in a timely manner.

1. Earn the IEDS Certification, or meet equivalency standards.

2. Earn the IEDAS Certification, or meet equivalency standards.

3. Proof of 5 years or 10,000 hours of ED specific, direct experience

4. Proof of 2 years of mentorship or leadership experience (e.g., direct supervision of colleagues, documented leadership experience, or peer consultation)

5. CV or Resume

6. Hold an active professional license in your jurisdiction (e.g., therapist, psychologist, dietitian, physician, etc.)

7. Personal Statement

   1. Describe your supervisory or consulting experience specific to working with ED clinicians 

      2. Describe your values as an ED clinician, and how they have evolved over time.

      3. Describe your advanced skills and competency as an ED clinician, and how they have evolved over time. 

8. Interview with Consultation Director to assess competency

9. Pay an application fee of $395.

    This application includes all steps outlined above. This is your final step, and the step that alerts the IEDE team that you are ready for your certification audit. You can expect to hear from us in a timely manner.

Requirements to become an IEDE consultant (IEDAS-C):

1. Earn your IEDS Credential via the traditional pathway. You may use a 50% off coupon for the training, however you are required to fully complete training and certification requirements. No equivalency option.

2. Earn your IEDAS Credential via the traditional pathway or equivalency standards.

3. Earn your IEDAS-C Credential

   • Traditional pathway as stated and including a shadowing process.

   • In addition to other stated requirements, you must shadow at least 3 consultation group sessions.

4. Agree to IEDE consultation standards, including confidentiality and de-identification expectations

5. Practice within scope and comply with the laws and ethical standards of their jurisdiction(s)

6. Some applicants may be asked to complete additional steps to ensure readiness for consultant responsibilities
